UNESCO Global Geoparks: Geodiversity and Geoheritage for Peace and Sustainability

There is a pressing need for humanity to reconnect with this fractured planet, to join peoples and all of nature, both its biodiversity and its geodiversity. Rooted in local communities, drawing together diverse stakeholders, building on ordinary geodiversity and the extraordinary geodiversity (the geoheritage), UNESCO Global Geoparks rise to this challenge. They deliver for inhabitants, and contribute to international frameworks such as the Paris Accord, the Global Biodiversity Framework or indeed the Sendai Framework for Risk Reduction. All around the world UNESCO Global Geoparks are helping decision makers and the public, not only to rediscover, but also to kindle a new respect for the Earth and its processes.
